The Raven’s Dispatch – The week in cryptocurrency – May 10, 2018

The Raven's Dispatch

May 11, 2018

All quiet on the western front

Look at that, a rather calm week for Bitcoin and crypto. Some pumps, some dumps but the shotcaller, Bitcoin, has shown some nice continuation over the past week. While some people couldn’t hold back and sold alts for 15-30% gains we here are Crypto is Coming are #HODLing strong.

While we’ve seen some small ups and downs in the top 5 cryptocurrency we have not seen any major swings. Prices have remained rather level which indicates some strong continuation in the altcoin market.  According to Livecoinwatch the overall market has dropped 6%, not all that much for the experienced cryptocurrency follower. Volatility? What volitility.

The past week saw the overall crypto marketcap decrease –6.5% to $426mln. See what I mean?  Nothing to be worried about, we’re still over $400bln. EOS continues to keep Litecoin out of the top5 and with the mainnet and EvolutionOS  airdrop coming soon we expect EOS to make some serious moves in the near future.

Bitcoin:  BTC dipped 5% to $9120 in the past week as of this post. Bitcoin is still flirting with $10k but just doesn’t want to break that psychological resistance. The positive news is that major wallstreet players continue to bet on a strong BTC by opening trading desks and planning for a long term bitcoin bullrun. More on that in the news below. Never bet against the king.

Ehtereum: Don’t call it a comeback yet, but week to week ETH has shown another week of strong continuation with a 0.8% drop settling at $742 as of this post. Hardfork or not, Vitalik boycotting Consensus, or the #FUD of ETH being labeled a security has not had the negative effect many thought. ETH is here for the long term boys and girls.

Ox (ZRX): The protocol for trading tokens doesn’t give a fuuuuuuuu. Talk about a bullrun! New All time highs and no end in sight. This week we are focusing on Ox, a protocol for decentralized exchanges which is one of the most promising projects in the crypto space. Ox is a project with the intent of “powering decentralized exchange 0x is an open, permissionless protocol allowing for ERC20 tokens to be traded on the Ethereum blockchain”. Sounds promising and with the shenanigans we recently saw with BCN and Binance and Poloniex, decentralized exchanges grow ever more promising.

Ox Protocol saw an incredible uptrend since March gaining over 200% as of this post.  With a total market cap of $1bln ZRX is creeping up into the large cap domain ranking 29th on Livecoinwatch. In the past week ZRX has seen a 49% increase and shows no sign of slowing down. This project is definitely a long #HODL.

What’s new at Crypto is Coming

This week at Crypto is Coming we have a look at what Airdrops are and how to take full advantage of them. Your parents always told you money doesn’t grow on trees, but I think the crypto space is proving that idiom wrong.

With all the talk of Bitcoin destroying the environment through excessive enery consumption it’s interesting to see that the GPU market has been affected by a shortage of GPUs due to the boom of mining. The folks over at coincentral look into why there is a GPU shortage.

We are on the path to tokenising the world! Tokenisation refers to the practice of representing an asset through a set amount of tokens which are all stored on a blockchain ledger. Why is this a big deal? Well, it’s a similar idea to representing an asset with fiat

With tax season upon us crypto miners are asking a very important question: Are Earnings from Cryptocurrency Mining Subject to Taxes?   If you mine or plan to in the near future check out this post to be sure you are reporting your earnings properly. Nobody wants Uncle Sam knocking on their door.

Cryptocurrency Conundrum: Are We in a Bubble or Not? You know what’s so great about cryptocurrency? It’s the early days. We’re at the forefront of innovation, just like the tech boom in 1995! Of course, the thing that’s not so great about cryptocurrency is that it’s just like the tech boom in 1995.

While Bitcoin and blockchain me be psuedonymous there are a few privacy coins out there that will keep yourr transactions…Private. check out our guide to Monero to learn about how privacy coins work.

There are plenty of controversial figures in the cryptocurrency space, but none more than Jihan Wu. Why is that? Read our piece on why Jihan Wu is so despised in the community.

Buying bitcoin and cryptocurrencies on exchanges is not the only way to get your hands on the future. Most of the wealthy don’t bother using exchanges. Only us plebs. How do the wealthy get their hands on Bitcoin? Over the Counter markets.
